Indie Paws
Indie Paws is an outreach project of SDS which started in 2019 with the idea to extend a helping hand to our furry animals. The project began with a small thought of providing water and shelter for stray animals during the scorching heat of summer. As the summer reached its peak, so did the death rate of animals due to heat waves. Initially we took it upon ourselves to take care of the strays around Safdarjung Development Area but slowly with the help of volunteers we now cover all major areas of South Delhi. We have been taking care of around 600 stray dogs, in and around IIT, Lodhi Garden, Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi Golf Club, Zamrudpur, Aurobindo Marg, Chirag Delhi, RK Puram, Panchsheel Enclave, Air India Building and many more areas across Delhi.
Out of pure passion and love for animals we also started a community kitchen which feeds dogs in all the aforementioned areas on a daily basis. Nearly 350 kgs of rice is prepared every morning by our beloved cook Santosh Jana who is also an animal lover at heart and prepares their meals with utmost love and compassion. We also get the stray animals sterilized and take care of any medical urgencies of these animals. We receive distress calls often about accidents, both hit and run cases and cases of human abuse to animals. Most of the strays suffer from maggot attacks and wounds that require medical intervention. We come across many abandoned cases where we feel the need to take care of these animals. The plight of the animals are beyond our imagination, the life long suffering they go through is unimaginable.
