Inspired by the 7th word of the 'Gayatri Mantra' Varenyum is an endeavor that seeks to scientifically and methodically bridge the gap between the reactive subconscious mind and the conscious mind to maximize human potential. This Eco-spiritual movement focuses on inculcating a meditative lifestyle and ensuring holistic well-being, that promotes harmony with oneself and all other beings.
We believe that the entire ecological disasters and the turmoil of human suffering is a direct result of our lifestyle – which has become completely bereft of spiritual values of care, compassion, simplicity and above all Love.
This was beautifully summarized by Lord Krishna in Bhagwat Geeta-
Asatyam apratishtham te
Jagad ahur anishvaram
Aparaspara-sambhutam
Kim anyat kama-haitukam
Meaning, that those who believe in the philosophy of gross materialism believe that this Universe wasn’t created by a conscious force of creation. And thus it has no purpose other than facilitating human lust for pleasure and wealth. Following this philosophy, those who are lost to themselves, and who are bereft of wisdom, engage in actions that lack a conscious cycle of thinking and thus wreak havoc upon nature.
SCIENCE BEHIND THE ART OF MEDITATIVE LIVING
Our brain comprises self-referential processing regions, known as the Default Mode Network (DMN)- which inhibit an individual from
being in the moment, and increase mind wandering, acutely affecting the secretions of dopamine, serotonin and endorphins- or what we know as happiness hormones.
Several types of research have shown that meditation decreases the density of grey cells around the DMN region of the brain, making it less of an impediment in the path of one’s mental peace and happiness. Grey cells also decrease around the Amygdala, which influences stress, fear, insecurities and blood pressure. This decrease in grey cells is balanced efficiently by an increase in these cells in regions associated with memory, retentive, learning and emotional intelligence.
Meditation also increases the alpha waves or the Berger waves of
our brains, which are low-frequency waves produced by the thalami
pacemaker cells, in the occidental lobe. An increase in these waves gives the human mind a unique ability to assess information, while also relatively staying at rest.
This also positively affects our cardiovascular functions, taking the load off our heart muscles and helping them transport oxygen more effectively to various body parts. Several types of research have demonstrated that the same waves combined with a good lifestyle, also decrease the inflammation in our blood vessels warding off several health complications.
